Voices from Our Community: The 9-Year-Old Changemaker
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Men in Blue bravely serve as frontline heroes. They have shown extraordinary resilience in the face of hardship, and thanks to our generous donors, so has The Doe Fund as an organization through an extraordinarily challenging time.
Our supporters come in many different forms … including a nine-year-old student doing her part to help.
Fairfax Walker first noticed the Men in Blue hard at work by her school in lower Manhattan. From that moment on, she knew she wanted to make a difference, too.
“I saw the men working on the streets,” said Fairfax. “I wanted to give the money to a place that helps people and I chose The Doe Fund.”
Ever the entrepreneur, Fairfax created her own line of bedazzled hand sanitizers, and has been selling them on her stoop as well as at school. All proceeds are donated to The Doe Fund.

For Fairfax, the idea was obvious. “People need hand sanitizers in the pandemic,” she explained. They have been a hit with her fellow classmates, who have responded well to the product’s merging of safety with style.
When asked what she would tell the Men in Blue if she had the chance, Fairfax said: “Thank you for helping clean up the city. Thank you for all you do to make a difference!”
