Mama Doe Crying:Tears

The Doe Fund’s Mama Doe Memorial | Monday, December 25th, 2023

Every Christmas Day since 1985, hundreds of formerly homeless individuals and their families have gathered for a moving candlelight vigil. The memorial began in honor of two homeless women whose tragic deaths led to the creation of The Doe Fund: a woman known only as “Mama” and a young girl named April.

This year, come #DoeTogether to remember homeless lives lost and celebrate those reclaimed at 10am in St. Agnes Church (143 E 43rd St), where April tragically died by suicide. Like Mama, April, and the Men in Blue, you can become a Firesoul: someone who ignites change, catalyzes solutions, and rebuilds communities. Help us spark a movement and give the gift of opportunity to people experiencing homelessness.

Building Blue and Beyond: The Doe Fund’s 2023 Gala | Thursday, October 26th, 2023

New York is on the verge of recovery after extraordinary challenge. Still, a convergence of crises stands in our way: an unprecedented surge in homelessness in our streets, subways, and shelters; highly visible and tragic mental health-related incidents; a perception of eroding public safety; a lack of affordable housing; and economic disparities that marginalize countless New Yorkers.

These interrelated crises suggest a singular truth: people experiencing homelessness aren’t a monolith — and we need diverse solutions to meet them where they are. In the same way that The Doe Fund pioneered the most successful solution to homelessness for single adults, we have now expanded into a multi-service organization providing a full continuum of care for all New Yorkers in need.

On October 26, 2023 at 6:00 PM ET, join leaders in business, finance, real estate, philanthropy, and media to celebrate working solutions that have impacted more than 30,000 lives over 30 years, from the Men in Blue to the residents of our permanent housing — and see how The Doe Fund is Building Blue and Beyond. Better Together: The Doe Fund’s Graduation Ceremony | Thursday, May 4th, 2023

At 6pm on Thursday, May 4th, The Doe Fund will celebrate its Ready, Willing & Able Graduation Ceremony at St. Ignatius Loyola Church on the Upper East Side. We’d love for you to join us for this momentous event!

This year, we’ll recognize our Class of 2023, graduates who have achieved full-time employment and permanent housing after overcoming homelessness and incarceration. The theme of Graduation is Better Together — because New Yorkers work better together. The success of our graduates is the result of their own hard work, but also of an entire community of stakeholders uplifting them, from employers to housing providers to political leaders, our dedicated staff, and generous supporters like you. We’re especially excited to recognize graduates from the inaugural class of our new career training track in welding, made possible by generous support from Sony.

There is no Doe Fund event that speaks more clearly to the transformative power of work, the potential within the men we serve, and the efficacy of our model than our annual Graduation ceremony.
