Work assignments - jobs for homeless, welfare to work, homeless people
Ready, Willing & Able > Work Assignments
Upon entering the Ready, Willing & Able program, participants immediately give up any entitlements and receive a $15 per week stipend, pay no rent, and receive meals at no cost. Participants are required to spend four hours per day participating in the operation, security, and maintenance of the program facility under the close supervision of the Case Management staff. Their performance is closely monitored and reviewed in terms of their motivation, ability to follow directions and quality of work.

Upon successful completion of one month, participants begin the paid employment and work skills training portion of our program. The Doe Fund has developed several paid work projects through which participants acquire both marketable job skills and solid work experience. These opportunities include street cleaning, apartment repair, culinary arts, and direct mail processing.

Participants have ended their homelessness themselves by becoming self-sufficient members of our community and productive, welcome members of society. In order to reflect the demands of mainstream society, Ready, Willing & Able trainees receive $7.40 - $8.15 per hour. In return, trainees contribute $105 a week for room and board and $40.25 - $54.00 a week is put into a personal savings account. Their savings are matched by a $1,000 grant from The Doe Fund, paid in $200 installments, upon graduation from the program. Graduation from the program requires trainees to have secured employment in the economic mainstream and moved into independent housing while remaining clean and sober.
