CBS 2 New York profiles The Doe Fund's Culinary Arts Program

On Thanksgiving morning, CBS 2 New York’s Jay Dow profiled The Doe Fund’s Culinary Arts Program, which each day serves nutritious meals to hundreds of Ready, Willing & Able trainees.

Two days earlier, the New York Daily News profiled trainee Canito Cintron, who was getting ready to help prepare Thanksgiving dinner for the 400 “men in blue” at our Porter Avenue facility in Brooklyn.

Lorial Crowder at the finish line

Lorial Crowder on her way to the finish line

One of many things that makes The Doe Fund such a unique institution is the dedication and passion of its supporters.

Lorial Crowder and thirteen other runners recently took this commitment to a new level by taking on the ING New York City Marathon. Lorial, like each one of The Doe Fund’s marathoners, pledged to raise $2,500 in support of her run for the “men in blue” of Ready, Willing & Able.

Running 26.2 miles is an impressive achievement under any circumstances; but crossing the finish line to provide fresh starts for others is even more so.  Many thanks to Lorial and all of our marathoners!

8-21-09-0601Inside every Ready, Willing & Able facility you’ll find a computer lab where trainees can build their computer skills, search for jobs, and connect with family members and friends. For years, The Doe Fund has been offering an optional four-month computer course to trainees who are interested and committed to increasing their computer literacy.  Recently, however, we have made it mandatory for all trainees to attend a six-hour computer class when they first enter our program.  Now everything’s clicking.

Nazerine GriffinOn Thursday, October 29th, hundreds gathered at Cipriani 42nd Street to celebrate The Doe Fund’s 25 years of service to New York City.

Speakers included Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Harold Dow of CBS News’ 48 Hours, the Reverend Alfonso Wyatt of the Fund for the City of New York, and Harriet and George McDonald.

One of the night’s most inspiring moments took place when Nazerine Griffin, the Director of The Doe Fund’s Harlem Center for Opportunity, was joined on stage by forty “men in blue” while he told his personal story of transition from homelessness and addiction to independence.
