My Bucket

While I was outside doing community service, my bucket became part of my life. In the past, I used to look at people sweeping the streets and think to myself, 'How degrading. I will never do that!' I wouldn't be caught dead pushing a bucket and picking up garbage.' I felt like, 'Leave that job for Sanitation.'

Then, one day, I had a reality check. I became part of The Doe Fund's Women's Program. I got a chance to beautify my community and my pride shot right up. I realized I had an effect on the people in my community and, in the process, I became "famous" with my children. I had started something that was going to give me a chance to prove to them and myself that I had what it takes to be self-sufficient.
